Mint Mani For Miss Talia Joy

If you make beauty videos on YouTube, watch beauty videos on YouTube, or even have come across them in passing, you’ve probably seen something by a user going by taliajoy18.

And, even if you haven’t, you’ve probably seen her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Talia was a 13-year-old girl who had been battling neuroblastoma and myelodysplastic syndrome (more commonly known as preleukemia). Sadly, she lost her battle with both of these diseases on Tuesday, July 16, 2013.

Her last Instagram picture was a shot of her, her mother, and a close friend of her family rocking mint green manis, so Nicole of Nail Polish Wars thought it would be a fitting tribute for a bunch of us in the nail community to do mint green manis, and the response was overwhelming.

This is my contribution.

I started with Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet, my go to mint creme. I then wanted to add a little sparkle so I added Kleancolor Silver Glitter.

I loved this mani, but I ended up doing it right before work and therefore managed to smudge quite a few while working, so it came off as soon as I came home. 😦

I also participated in the other Instagram hashtag project done today in Talia’s memory: A Little Fishy Project. This was due to the fact that on her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, when asked how she managed to keep going, to not give up, she said that a little fishy told her to “Just Keep Swimming,” referring to a famous line said by Dory in Finding Nemo, who was voiced by Ellen. So participants were asked to draw fishes on their wrists. This was my little fishy:

The family is requesting that anyone wishing to make donations do so to BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation, Talia’s preferred charity.

RIP Talia, and all the other children who have lost their battles with children’s cancers.
