Video Post: March Haul

So my nails and I are not friends right now. I’ve been stress picking at my nails and cuticles and they they are pretty FUBAR right now, so I haven’t been playing with my polishes very much (and in fact the last polish haul I did wasn’t even for myself, it was for my sister’s birthday), and won’t be until I give them some much needed TLC and time to grow back out from nubbins. So in the meantime, I’ve been prettifying myself with face makeup and skincare products. Here’s a haul I did last month.

Makeup Monday: Brushes, Brushes, Brushes

So, up until recently I was a fail of a makeup fan. I didn’t use brushes, just cosmetic wedges and whatever applicators came with.

I got my first brush set last Friday, and it has changed my makeup application for the better.

I got a set of elf brushes, and what I like about them is that they tell you what kind of brush it is, so a makeup brush newb like me knows what to use when, because the reason it took me so long to purchase brushes was because I was so overwhelmed over what brushes to buy.

So, until I get used to the brushes, I’m content with these.

Makeup Monday: Normal Routine

For today’s Makeup Monday, I decided to show off my usual products, what I use when I’m just doing my makeup to hang out.

As mentioned in last week’s post, I start with my primers. NYC Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer on my face, Elf Eyelid Primer on my eyes.

Next is foundation and concealer, and I totally meant to put those together in one picture, but forgot and had to photograph the concealer last. Anyway, my foundation is the NYC Skin Matching Foundation in Light to Medium, and my concealer is Neutrogena SkinClearing Oil-Free Concealer in Medium.

Next up is the face. My usual blush and bronzer are both Wet N Wild. The blush is Pearlescent Pink, and the bronzer is Princess. I wear the bronzer less often than I do the blush, though. I’m still trying to figure out how to use it properly.

Now, I don’t use every single one of those eyeshadow palettes when I do my eyes, lol. But, I do use one of those four nearly everytime I reach for a palette. They’re all Maybelline, and from the top left they are Seashore Frost, Impeccable Greys, Amethyst Smokes, and Rose Tints. Below them is the Jordana Easyliner in black (no sharpening!) and my favorite mascara, Maybelline Lash Stiletto.

Makeup Monday: Let’s Talk Primers

Welcome to my first Makeup Monday. Today, I’m talking primers.

Primers, base coats for your face. At least, that’s the way I see them.

I admit, I use inexpensive products, but judging from a good majority of my nail polish stash, I go for affordability.

Under my foundation I use NYC Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer. I got this one at Target, and I believe it was $3.89. It looks like a sheer shimmery white cream out the tube, but it blends right in and I notice a huge difference between when I use my foundation with it, and when I use it without. A face primer (any one) is a makeup bag staple, IMO.

For my eyes, I use the Elf Eyelid Primer. I picked this up as part of a set for $5.99, with an eyeshadow palette, an eyeliner pencil and a mascara (the mascara was ruined, but that’s okay. I wasn’t really buying it for that, I was buying it for everything else). I love this stuff, well worth the money.

So yeah, there are my “facial base coats.”
